Description
Online Class
This course continues the 6-Week Introductory Course and builds on the essentials of Japanese calligraphy learned in that class. This class allows students to learn Japanese calligraphy as an art that enriches their lives. Japanese calligraphy requires body-mind concentration, breathing, and constant repetition. When students learn to harmonize these activities, calligraphy becomes a meditative practice to help calm the mind and strengthen the spirit.
Students complete the course when meeting course deadlines. After a week of practice, students must submit each assignment for correction. Students can expect their skills to improve with detailed feedback and guidance from Esteban Martinez Sensei. Through these practical assignments, students will deepen their practice and work on assignments appropriate to their skill level.
Students in this class can earn grades (級 kyū in Japanese) through Gohitsu Shodo Kai. Earning grades allows students to keep track of their progress and look forward to higher-level assignments.
